Gracie Allen has been appointed the treasurer of her women's club, the Beverly
Hills Uplift Society, but thanks to her, the club loses its clubhouse
- since she spent all the rent money for a wallsafe to keep the money in.
So Gracie makes an attempt to get a loan from the bank - but only succeeds
in driving the bank owner Mr Vanderlip (Lew Merrill) to despair. Ultimately
though, Gracie talks her husband George Burns - who feels less than comfy
with the women meeting in his house - into lending them the money ... and
the clubmembers also immediately pay him back - in one Dollar-kisses. One
of the weaker episodes of the series, this one still fetures enough
humourous dialogue and funny oneliners - but unfortunately, during the
second half, when all the women meet in Gracie's house, the whole thing
falls apart since Gracie Allen just isn't that good when doing ensemble
comedy - plus announcer Harry von Zell's shameless plugging of the show's
sponsor just doesn't come across as hilarious as it's supposed to be.
Still mildly amusing.
