People start being killed off on campus, and all evidence suggests the
work of vampires. At the same time, a new roommate moves in with shy and
religious Sarah (Kristin McLaughlin), the outgoing Lilith (Alexander
Ackerman), who's always dressed in black and who doesn't seem in the least
concerned about the murders, going out almost every night ... and soon,
Sarah starts relating her to the murders, and as she starts reading books
on vampirism, her suspicions seem to only be confirmed. And that Lilith
keeps photos of Sarah and her friends in her drawer isn't exactly a
quieting thought either.
Eventually, Sarah gets so freaked out by Lilith that she moves in with
Luke (Cliff Poche) the leader of her church group - but he soon receives a
visit of other members of the group - who turn out to be vampires and
quickly bite him to death. Then they go after Sarah, too - when Lilith
shows up on the scene, armed with crucifix and gun (according to this film
you can kill a vampire by shooting it 7 times), and she, turning out to be
a vampire hunter by profession, saves Sarah's life.
But Sarah's not yet save, because Luke returns from death as a vampire
and ...
Nice featurette that manages to pump some new blood into the vampire
genre, a genre that had been explored hundreds of times. But this film
manages to keep things fresh by turning its vampire plot into a murder
mystery and keep things going by inventive storytelling and some nice
plottwists. Now admittedly, A Candle in the Dark is no genre
classic or anything but it's an entertaining piece of film that is just
short enough (a mere 40 minutes) to not become repetitive or predictable.
