Billy (Tyler Tackett) and Alice (Mair Mulroney) are a young couple very
much in love - and very much looking forward to celebrating their first
Christmas together in their newly acquired own house, with the first
Christmas tree either of them has had in years. And just to celebrate the
occasion, they take a bit of ecstasy, just for fun - fun that the pizza
guy (Paul Stanczak), who stops by later on for a delivery, can see clearly
in their eyes. Fortunately, he knows somebody who's got some stuff to keep
the party going, and thus Billy and Alice thus invite the pizza guy to
join - and what has begun as a romantic evening soon ends in alcohol- and
drug-fuelled debauchery. But the wilder the party, the worse the morning
after ... Now here's a movie that really makes the highs and
the lows of heavy partying palpable, thanks to a clever yet very logical
structure that starts at a very neutral, even boring points, then winds
things up to definite highs before going downwards to the worst possible
outcome - and all the while the film feels real, never like some sort of
message movie about drug abuse, thanks to a strong cast and a directorial
effort that know when to go all-out and when to take itself back to give
the actors and story room to breathe. Worth a look for sure!
