Mario Pontecorvo (Antonio Mayans) has been a big star in his native
Argentina back in the day - but then he was accused of molesting a 14 year
old, and he had to leave the country for a desert island, where he since
lives in a mansion with his sexually frustrated new wife, Dulcinea (Carmen
Carrión), and his two daughters, Desdemona (Lina Romay) and Paulova
(Asunción Calero). And while Paulova has never grown up and still behaves
like a baby despite being an adult woman, 18 year old Desdemona's libido
has of late gone into overdrive, so she wears little to nothing most of
the time, spies on her dad having sex with Dulcinea, masturbates in front
of his very eyes, and tells him to the face she wouldn't mind being
molested by him - not that it makes any difference, as he lives entirely
in the past, in memories of better times, and has problems to perform
sexually anyhow. And then a hunter by the name of Tony Curtis (Tony Skios)
turns up on the island and shakes things up considerably, first
deflowering Desdemona, then having sex with Dulcinea - and things would
never be the same again on the island ... Now this is a very
odd piece of 1980s softcore erotica indeed: Of course, the story (the
little there is of it) is merely a canvas for notorious director Jess
Franco to live out his perverse fantasies (something Franco always readily
admitted to with his oeuvre as a whole), and his camerawork is very much
on the voyeuristic side - and it stands to argue whether there was ever an
actual screenplay for this movie. And yet, the film feels like more than
just another dirty movie (which it undoubtedly is), as there are shots and
shot compositions in this one that would make any director proud, and the
impressive scenery is put onto film as impressively. And one can't help
but detect some subversive comedy in this one, most of all in Antonio
Mayans' monologues, and in a hilarious (audio-)parody of then-popular soap
opera Dallas. Now that said, I wouldn't call this one a
"good" film by any meaning of the word, but if you're not easily
offended by its overly sexualized plot, this is at least an interesting
movie, and quite an entertaining one even (or especially) besides its many
sex scenes.
