Essentially, two seperate stories: In story number one (which takes
up the majority of the film's running time), Johnny, who has broken out of
prison, wants to reunite with his father and sister somewhere in rural
Thailand ... but Jerry, local crime kingpin, wants him to join his gang
for a big heist, and after he can't beat and torture him into submission,
he takes his father and sister hostage. Reluctantly, Johnny gives in - but
the heist goes bust because Johnny has secretly been in league with the
police all along. In story number two, superhero Catman (Jonathan James)
ahd his best friend Gus are to have an eye on Sandra, who carries with her
a starter for an atom bomb, which some evil foreign power (of course)
wants to get its hands on. Catman and Gus botch up the job royally though,
when Sandra is murdered pretty much before their very eyes, and the killer
gets away with the starter, too. However, Catman and Gus pick up the trail
... and soon walk into an ambush - and now the baddies want to blow them
to Kingdom Come, but since Catman and Gus are apparently able to survive
sure death, they save the day in the end. The second and last
of the Catman-films is one of the least entertaining
cut-and-paste films Godfrey Ho has ever made: Basically, too much emphasis
is put on the guest film, a low budget rural crime drama from
Thailand, that ... well, that's just not a very good movie - plus, thanks
to creative editing, many key narrative threads seem to be cut out
of the source material, so every now and again, the Thai portions of the
film don't make any sense at all. Furthermore, the newly shot superhero
material was obviously done on the dirt cheap and lacks any real bunch
needed for a story of this ilk. And while Jonathan James plays his Catman
strictly for laughs, this sits ill with the rest of the movie. Apart from
that, the Catman-story isn't even terribly interesting and features zero
plottwists and the like. Pretty much a disappointment, actually!
