Smalltown, USA, a
place where everyone loves Christmas, so much so that the event has become
the backbone of the local tourism industry ... well, everyone loves
Christmas but one, deputy Annie (Jen Lilley), who can't stand the holiday
ever since the death of her husband, a Christmas fanatic. And then the
town hall's elaborate Christmas decorations are stolen, and she and
sheriff Tom (Cody Mayo) are put on the case - and she throws herself into
it like a big city detective, without noticing that she estranges many
locals with her attitude. She also comes up with many leads and even more
suspects - indlucing the owner of the failing hardware store (Drew
Pollock), the local priest (Michael Ashcraft), the town's grumpy weirdo
(Alden Anderson) and even the mayor herself (Betsy Hume), but try as she
might, she fails to stickthe theft on any of them. In the meantime, her
daughter Leia (Kylee Levien) is gettng more and more into the holiday mood
by sharing Christmas love all around and fixes many things her mother has
broken, but can she also fix her mother's broken heart?
Now this being a Christmas movie, you pretty much know what you're in for,
ane for the most part, A Crhismystery remains about as
predictable as you'd expect from a film of its ilk, and yes, the film also
features a few too many Crhistmas songs - again, as expected - and has
your typical "love conquers everything" ending. But that out of the way,
A Chrismystery is actually rather good ad doing what it
does, it's at times pretty amusing, features a cast of enjoyably eccentric
supporting characters, is rather well-acted and doesn't try to drive home
its Christmassy message too hard, so if you're at all.into Crhistmas
movies, you might want to give this one a watch.
