It should have been the most romantic wedding for Lisa (Sian Altman)
and Charlie (George Nettleton) at a posh mansion somewhere in the English
countryside - after all, what, apart from the weather, could go wrong?
Thing is, the night before the wedding, Charlie has the idea to step out
with one of the bridesmaids (Beatrice Fletcher) who he's long been
attracted to for a good shag ... and that's not only the bad part of it,
as eventually the two of them are surprised by a crocodile who eats up the
bridesmaid whole. Charlie manages to slip away, but fails to warn the
others as that would mean his little affair coming out. So at the big day,
just before the vows, the whole wedding party is attacked and decimated by
a very hungry crocodile. And soon enough the gang's down to Lisa, Charlie,
Lisa's father (Mark Haldor), Charlie's best man (Stephen Staley), two of
Lisa's bridesmaids (Antonia Whillans, Chrissie Wunna) and the reverend
(Chris Cordell). And while Lisa's dad is a survivalist who's supposed to
know what to do in such a situation, he's also severely injured, and after
some more lethal confrontations with the crocodile, it's up to Lisa's wits
to handle the situation ... Now of course this film's premise
is a bit silly, as there simply are no crocodiles in the English
countryside, and even if that's admitted in the movie, the existence of
one is never properly explained. But that's also a bit beside the point as
when watching a film called Croc! I doubt one expects scientific
super-accuracy. Also, this is not a film that invents (genre-)filmmaking
anew, but again, a title as blunt as Croc! doesn't suggest that but
rather just good animal horror action - and this the movie delivers in
drove, and actually the anachronistic backdrops work for the film here
rather than against it, to deliver cool genre entertainment - that you
might have forgotten in the morning, but it sure enough is plenty of fun
while it lasts.
