Dic Jones (Tyler Horn) is a down-on-his-luck private detective who
really has a hard time keeping afloat since his girlfriend (Stacey Travis)
left him for a rich mobster (Joe Alaskey). Now it's only thanks to a
friend at the police department (Ken Gibbel) who gets him on a case every
now and again that Jones keeps afloat at all. The latest one concerns a
couple (Hisako Mura, Greg Travis) found dead in their apartment, drained
of all their blood. When Jones finds a broken fang in the place, he soon
figures it might have been vampires, but not even he believes in them ...
and couldn't be more wrong, as the couple was indeed attacked and by
vampires Vera (Victoria Hughey) and Serina (Catharine Simmons). What's
even more troubling is that Jones almost becomes Vera's next victim as she
gladly agrees to a random one night stand after having had a fight with
Serina, and she bites him but fails in drawing any blood - which might
have to do with the fact that she's the one with the fang missing. The
longer Jones's investigation goes though, the closer he comes to the truth
- but he also has to realize that Vera's bite is starting to turn him into
a vampire, so there isn't much time for anything anymore ... Of
course, one of the most interesting aspects of Dark Seduction is
that it took more than 30 years to completion, seeing the light of day in
2015 while stylistically a typical film of the 1980s (complete with new
wave vampires) that in turn pays homage to 1940s film noir of the
hardboiled detective variety but mixed up with more modern bloodsuckers -
but the film's actually pretty entertaining in its own right as it despite
all the references manages to tell its story in a fresh way, it's well
directed and really gets the noir feel across without making it feel
anachronistic when paired with the new age vampires, the film shows plenty
of self-irony, and the cast is really up to the task. Pretty cool
entertainment, actually.
