A trio of treasurehunters crash their way into a pharaoh's tomb to find some gold (ancient Egyptian
artifacts, it seems, are not good enough for them) while over the next
dune a group of photographers & models do a photoshoot. Soon, the
models & photographers discover the tomb & think it a good idea
to finish their shoot in there. Is it by his gold being stolen or is it
by the heat of the photographers' spotlights, it is never really
explained (but the movie points either way, really), but something does
awaken the mummy, & no sooner does it - along with the undead
guardians who were enombed with it - start slaughtering people. When the
guards are caught at a wedding chewing up the bride (really !!!), they
start an all out war on humanity, killing off most of the cast. The
survivors decide to blow up the mummy - yippie !
This movie actually gathered some notoriety for being the first one
to combine the mummy- with the then popular gut-munching-zombie-genre
... they shouldn't have bothered though, for this movie is pretty bad.
& even worse, it's a bore, too. It's done with incredibly little
style or imagination, & horror or suspense never really do take off
at all. When the action actually does start (more than an hour into the
movie), it's already way too late (& done in a way too pedestrian
way) to provoke any real interest, for the first hour is filled with
next to no story, next to no characterization of all persons involved
& an incredibly bland dialogue, that has to be heard to be believed
... no, better yet, don't hear it, don't watch it ! |
