The world has been run over by zombies ... but a quartet of teenagers -
Dan (Ramzees Carvalho), his girlfriend Liz (Alyssa Paige Moreno), and pals
Alex (Luke Eleuterio) and Luke (Cameron Perrault) - seem to be rather well
off, hiding out in the basement of one of them with enough food and water
at least for short term survival, and a working TV. Of course, sitting it
out for quite some time has them a bit on the edge, but as much is to be
expected. Trouble starts when Dan's dad, by now zombified, enters their
hide-out and bites Liz before he's killed. And while the others want to
kill her rather than see her turn into a zombie slowly and painfully, Dan
will hear none of this ... and instead of battling it out leaves with Liz
to look for help. On the way to wherever there might be help (and they
don't know where), Dan falls asleep from exhaustion, and when he wakes up,
Liz is gone. He now goes to pains looking for her ... which might only be
the second best of ideas. If you cross the zombie and the
romance genre, you'd expect a total dud ... but this movie does pretty ok,
actually, featuring plenty of blood and guts while downplaying the
tearjerking moments without forgetting the sentimental core of the story -
and yet the direction is subtle enough to not let the gruesomeness and
spectacle usually associated with the zombie genre take over. That said,
it's probably not the best movie for Valentine's Day (except you and your
loved one are both into the undead) ... but a pretty good date movie for
Halloween ...
