Because Larry Thomas (Rod La Rocque) is merely a partying playboy
living of his father's wealth, his father (Edward LeSaint) has seen to it
that he gets the job as assistent to the district attorney (Joseph
W.Girard), to finally make use of his studying the law ... ... &
even on the first night on his new job, when celebrating his new situation
with girlfriend Kit (Marian Nixon), the dead body of Molly Cole (Betty
Compson) shows up in the club they are celebrating at, & Larry is
forced to handle the situation, which he first does showing his lack of
routine ... But soon Larry has figured out quite a few things, that the
club the body was found at is run by mobsters Roth (Jack Adair) &
Craine (John Dilson), that they had a third partner named Cole (John
Bantry) who is now in prison, having taken the fall for them, & that
Molly Cole was actually Cole's wife (hence the name Cole). But no matter
what Larry tries to do against mobsters Roth & Crane, they always seem
to be one step ahead of them - which only leads to one conclusion, that
there is a mole in the DA's office ... and indeed, when Larry stops over
at Roth'S office once more, he finds his own colleague Hill (Edward Keane)
there, promptly beats the living shit out of him & forces him to come
clean. Hill promioses to do so that night & invites him to some
hotel room ... but Roth & Craine have learned about LArrya being after
Hill & have decided to bump off Hill & frame Larry ... bugger.
Somehow though Larry can narrowly escape an arrest at the scene of the
crime, find one of Roth's & Craine's henchmen (Allen Matthews) who
destifies against them to save his own neck, & the police have little
problems to get their hands on Roth & Craine in the end, since Cole
has just broken out of prison to avenge the death of his wife & holds
them captive ... Rather dull crime thriller that gives away
everything way too soon, so taking all suspense out of a possible
whodunnit plot, & fails to provide interesting enough plottwists to
remain ... well interesting thgroughout.
