2020, the early days of the pandemic, and Trevor (Brant Rotnem)
couldn't be happier to score a job as property manager in a nice apartment
building, what with unemployment on the rise and all. The job seems simple
enough, too, as the building's caretaker Jerry (Craig Gellis) is
responsible for all the cleaning and repairs, and is efficient at it.
Sure, he's a bit of a creepy guy who's a little over-protective of the
maintenance room, but so what? Things start to get weird when one of the
tenants disappears, and nobody seems to really care, least of all Trevor's
boss (Vinnie Coppola), who's only interested in filling the empty
apartment on the quick. However, Trevor investigates and soon learns this
hasn't been the first disappearance in the building - heck, even the guy
(Tony Bartele) who's held the job before him one day vanished - but due to
the forced anonymity of the pandemic nobody seems to care much anymore.
And with the help of two tenants (Brock Jones, Cherie Corinne Rice),
Trevor starts to learn more and more about the building, and eventually
tracks down the cause of all the disappearances to the building's garage.
But the closer he gets to the truth the bigger the risk becomes for
himself to just vanish as well ... A very timely movie that
captures the general feel of the early days of the pandemic quite nicely,
but packs it into a horror story that, despite ultimately being on the
traditional side, keeps one guessing throughout. And the slowburn and
atmospheric approach of the film sure befits the story at hand, as does
its mere resistance to over-explain things. And a small, solid example
keeps things grounded and relatable, making this one nice piece of horror
cinema.
