All Jackson (Shaun Callaghan) wanted was to watch the game - but when
it's just about to start, and a plate of nachos is already in his lap, he
receives a call from his friend Liz (Diana Porter), who's got a little bit
of a problem she needs him to take care of as a favour ... and even though
he tries to wriggle out of it, Jackson knows from the get-go that he
can't. At the assigned address, Jackson finds a body (Jose Guns Alves) -
and judging from his reaction, this is not the first time that has
happened ... and so he goes about taking care of this - he's fighing
against the odds though, as there is no plastic in the house, so the body
leaves blood everywhere, Liz pesters him with calls about a dinner party
she wants to hold later at the scene of the crime and thus asks him to
hurry, a neighbour (Steven Lawler Jones) is a bit too nosey - and the real
problems are only about to begin even ... A Favor is a
really fun little comedy that effortlessly combines slapstick with the
macabre, and that never loses its ability to surprise, even if the
situation as such is known from many a genre movie. But of course that all
that is achieved is in no small part thanks to the likeable performance of
Shaun Callaghan, who really carries the thing as slightly clumsy Jackson
and who plays his role subtly rather than going for laughs, and a laid
back directorial effort helps his persona unfold. In all, pretty great
actually!
