It's a holiday, and all the girls at the boarding school return to
their parents ... all but Kat (Kiernan Shipka) and Rose (Lucy Boynton),
the former because ... well, she has got herself impregnated and doesn't
as of yet know how to deal with it, the latter because ... well, let's say
she has issues, and being abused by the school's headmaster might be among
them. And then there's Joan (Emma Roberts) who has just escaped from a
mental institution and hitched a ride to go to just that boarding school
... but then again, reality might just not be what we think it is ... One
simply can't deny it, director Oz Perkins just likes David Lynch a bit too
much: Admittedly, February is a film that has its moments, and it's
excellently acted, it looks awesome, it's atmospheric to boot (if that
makes any sense) ... one just can't escape two thoughts the director might
have had here, these being "how can I make this odder?" and
"what would David Lynch have done?" - which are totally not the
worst thoughts to go through a filmmaker's mind, they just don't help to
make a movie stand on its own ...
