Jacoby (Dan White) is madly in love with Rebecca (Wensday Greenbaum),
who is really everything he has ever fantasized about rolled into one: the
sultry teacher, the damsel in distress, the strict yet caring mother -
there is just one problem, that's not the real Rebecca, but these are
roles Rebecca has played in a string of cheesy made-for-TV movies. But
that doesn't bother Jacoby, nor does the fact that he has never actually
met her spoil his love in the least. Hey, he has been watching her house
for days now, he knows what's going on in her life. He also knows Rebecca
has a husband (Alexander Platt), but hey, one cannot be bothered by every
little detail, right? Rebecca of course is blissfully unaware of
Jacoby's surveillance, and even if his occasional perverted phonecalls
bother her a bit. Overall though, she thinks she's living a perfect life -
until she finds a dirty email from her husband's mistress (Katie Roach) on
his computer. And Jacoby sees this as a sign to finally step in and save
"his" damsel in distress ... The Final Obsession
is a very nice piece of psycho cinema that finds the right balance between
just playing it for the laughs (especially the Lifetime-like
clips from Rebecca's movies are hilarious) and some more disturbing bits
(and Dan White as a psychopath sure is creepy) to turn this into a very
entertaining and enjoyable short, also carried by very solid performances
and a nicely flowing directorial effort. Totally worth your time.
