On evil dictator Akim's planet it is the law to be a criminal, the
worse the better. Of course, the GBI (Galactic Bureau of Investigations)
can't let that be, so they send over Kurt, Flash Gordon's (Steve Holland)
best friend, to ... well, to do something. Kurt is promptly brainwashed by
a machine and sent back with the express order to kill Flash Gordon, and
Gordon is only just saved by Dale Arden (Irene Champlin). So the GBI
decides to send Flash and Dale to pay a visit to Akim, but the both of
them wear some shielding under their wigs to avoid brainwashing.
Of course, once with Akim, he has them restrained and unarmed, then he
gives them a jolly good brainwashing - and then, after Flash talks all
evil, Akim gives him his gun back, which Flash uses to stun everybody in
Akim's court and take Akim prisoner ...
A planet where being a criminal is the law, that sounds at least like a
funny, silly, campy idea - but unfortunately the scriptwriters make the
least of it and don't seem to have too much of an idea of where to go with
it, so the rest of the episode is just a childish formula plotabout Flash
and Dale throwing over an evil dictator - on their own. Add to that stagey
direction, unimaginative sets and cheap special effects, plus below
average actors, and you pretty much know what you'll get ...
