All Franklin (Eric Russell) wants is to be an actor - but he lives
in LA where everybody wants to be an actor, and even though he books
auditions pretty much constantly, he's all too rarely picked - so out of
desperation he has started performing in gay porn, to the utter dismay of
his bible-thumping mother (Tangie Ambrose), who back when had thrown him
out of her house when she learned he was gay. Since then he has gone
living with his uncle Vic (Parnell Damone Marcano), who's much more open
than his sister, but who can't really keep her from trying to cast drama -
like today when after an audition where a director (Anthony Bawn) tried to
get him on the casting couch, an experience after whichFranklin could have
done with some rest and relaxation. And at the moment it seems the only
one who understands him is Trevor (Rashad Todd), his Uber driver he has
only met earlier that day. What Franklin doesn't know though is there's a
dark family secret that informs his mum's behaviour, and she's not just a
hypocritical homophobe ... A compelling drama that really hits its
mark, essentially because it doesn't try too hard to hit its message home
but tells a story that despite some hyperbole remains relatable
throughout, than ks to a subtle directoriial effort, well fleshed out
characters and a competent, likeable cast - which all helps making this a
very worthwhile experrience. |
