Having absolutely nothing to do on a Friday night, a woman (Rachél
Johnson) watches late night television ... to find out the same horror
host show starring Johnny Ghoulash (John Migliore) is running on every
channel, showing stupid short after stupid short (with some trailers in
between):
- Since waking up, a guy (Andre Guantanamo) has had nothing but bad
luck, so much so that he blames the devil for it - but the devil (John
Migliore) isn't having his best day either ...
- A ghost and his witch girlfriend find out they have been cursed by a
cursed comicbook. This one's a cartoon by the way.
- Trailers, among others for the (made up, naturally) 1945 film Frankeinstein
- a film in which the Frankenstein monster gets Einstein's brain ...
- The 1920s: Cecil (John Migliore) the caretaker of an old mansion,
wants nothing but a quiet evening in the place he takes care of ...
when a couple of flappers spoil his fun - so why not spoil their fun
in return, gorily? This segment is shot in the style of silents from
the 1920s.
- The secret service want to fire their supreme telepathic hitwoman -
bur she's got other plans ...
- A cooking show and ads, all horror-related.
- A gay couple (Andre Guantanamo, Justin Moses) adopt a monster - that
eventually starts to enjoy killing people.
- A zombie/home invasion story, shot found footage style.
- Two surgeons (John Migliore, Andre Guantanamo) try to save ... one
of them from a near fatal bullet wound.
- After an especially messy hit, a mobster calls in a naked
cleaninglady (Faith Rayah) to clean up ...
If you couldn't tell from my synopsis already, The Friday Night
Death Slot is a genre comedy, with not only story and style being all
over the place, but also its humour, ranging from the occasional fart joke
to some quite sophisticated punchlines (especially
"Frankeinstein" and "gingersploitation" immediately
won me over), plus some of the comedy is very obviously deliberately bad,
but in a way that makes one laugh still. Aside from the comedy, John
Migliore and his team really know their horror, though, as the thing is
gross in all the right places, the spoof elements are spot-on, and the
love for the genre shines through at all times, effortlessly glossing over
the film's limited budget.
Should do especially well as a party movie, actually!
