Originally, Mo (Sean Earl McPherson) has been engineered as a super
soldier in the last days of the Cold War. But with the temporary fall of
the Soviet Union and the unification and privatisation of Europe under the
Phalanx corporation, Mo has quit his service and these days works as a
regular bounty hunter, caring for little but himself. Then though he
uncovers a large scale conspiracy to do with human trafficking, and
together with disillusioned cop Xoey (Yasmine Alice) and small fry crook
Decks (Adam Fox) he decides to uncover what's behind everything - even if
that means to infiltrate Europe's supreme crime boss the Matriarch's
(Sarah Whitehouse) headquarters and take a trip to the North Pole, only to
find out the super soldier program has takien a turn to the much worse
since Mo has been created - and almost die half a dozen times in the
process ... A very tight piece of dystopian science fiction,
and one that's pretty good at world-building, especially considering the
story is set in a parallel 2002 rather than the far future. But stringent
storytelling that feeds the information to the audience within the
narrative rather than spending much time on exposition, and pretty
convincing sets and miniatures (considering the film was made on a budget)
bring the film (and its own universe) to life rather beautifully, while
solid performances keep things grounded, and plenty of action keep the
audience on the edges of their seats, all resulting in pretty cool genre
entertainment.
