As if it wasn't bad enough that his flatmates Marty (Matthew Cottle) &
Mandy (Samantha Janus) left Matt (Ben Chaplin), their agoraphobic & abusive
landlord, alone on a Friday night, a rockband has moved in upstairs from his
flat, too, & they have picked Friday night to practice. The only thing that
would make them turn down their music, Matt figures, would be to tell them to
shut up ... but for that he would have to leave his flat for the first time in
months ...Finally, Mat indeed does muster up enough courage to go upstairs, but at the
band's doorstep he collapses - & falls into a better future, since the band
- Proactive (consisting of Sam MacKenzie, Danny Swanson & Jonathan MacGuinness
as timid guitar player the Fury) - was looking for a new lead-singer,
& Matt gets the job.
However, when it turns out Proactive's lyrics are (bad)
sociocritical commentaries about what they call the underclass, not
exactly Matt's cup of tea, while Matt wants to sing about shagging, artistic
differences soon seem to split the band ... when they get a gig ... the same
night ... at a nearby pub ... outside the building ... which all is way too
much for Matt to handle & he tries to wriggle out of it, until he is
dragged to the pub by force.
Once on stage, Matt has a complete breakdown & instead of
singing just sobs through the whole concert - thereby totally ruining it for
the band. The next day though, one ritic thought it was brilliant & forsees
a great career for Matt - who decides though he ghas already been on the top
& now lets it fade away ...
Refusing to give the characters some sort of relief even in
season 1's finale, Fame is another of these intrinsically sad but
wickedly funny episodes of Game on.
