It all starts rather innocently with teens Ralph (Owen Atlas) and Freddy
(Collin Thompson) locking annoying Rob (Chandler Riggs) out of their
online gaming room for him being, well, annoying. What they don't know of
course is that Rob is secretly also master internet scammer Chameleon, and
now that they've angered him he has revenge the only way he knows how, by
emptying their parents (Shane Brady, Augie Duke) bank account at exactly
they are moved out of their old house and need to make a down payment for
their new one. Of course, the bank isn't any help here, so dad's doing the
best he can to keep the family over water by donating an insane amount of
bone marrow - but of course, how ever hard he's trying it's never enough.
So Ralph and Freddie decide to try to track down Rob - and are soon helped
by field agents Kate (Katelyn Nacon) and Nova (Mia Castillo), who are
working the case for the CIA. Now getting their hands on Rob isn't really
that hard, it's getting him to spit out the password for his cellphone
that is, as this is the only way for Ralph and Freeie to get their
parents' money back. Sure, there's torture, but that's not exactly our
heroes' expertise, and Rob is tough. Then enter Santa Claus (Richard
Riehle) - the real one -, who has been defrauded by Rob as well, and boy
is he pissed ...
Now Hacked: A Double Entendre of Rage-Fueled Karma isn't
a film for everyone, it's loud in its humour, sometimes even crude, its
full of torture and murder and yet has a feel-good vibe to it, and it's
filled with actual rage from filmmaker Shane Brady, who has acually fallen
victim to online scammers, which inspired this movie. At the same time,
there's also some clever satire wrapped into the story, and while not all
jokes land, those that do actually hit bull's eye. So again, not for
everyone, but if you're up for a genre bending dark and blunt comedy,
you're in for a treat.
