Atsumi's a lovely coastal town that also happens to house its own howsprings, so it's pretty much ripe for becoming a top tourist destination - and mayor Kanichi (Takuya Fujimura) is desperately trying to make the town into just that, too... and with some success even, as the town's attracting more and more people... but alsö more and more sharks, who due to the caverns under the city don't just attack on open shores but also in the hot springs, potentionally taking out anybody getting into touch with local water. For a bit, this leaves everybody baffled of course, but ultimately, the mayor, marine biologist Dr. Kose (Yuu Nakanishi) and local strongman Maccho see themselves forced to team up to 3D print a submarine and attack the problem by its root. Problem is, the sharks aren't nearly as dumb as they'e supposed to be ...

Now it's pretty obvious that Hot Spring Shark Attack is taking some cues from Jaws - not a terribly original movie in itself, but the first to give sharks center stage -, but fortunately it doesn't take itself nearly as seriously as that move but instead plays up the ridiculousness of the genre, more reminiscent of fare like Sharknado or the like as it's a film that's very aware of its over-the-top-ness and really plays on it. And while many serious animal. horror fans will dixmiss this one for the nonsense it is, if you've got some sense of humour and do enjoy a certain degree of silliness and campiness (like I do), you'll find plenty to like in this one-
