Once upon a time, Bridget (Eva Igo) was a championship horse show rider,
but then she has had a terrible accident that has left her limping to this
day. She tries to tell herself everything's quite ok though, even if her
addiction to painkillers says otherwise. However, spending the year away
from home in college has at least given her plenty to concern herself with
and little to remind her of her days as a horserider. But in summer she
returns home, to see her former coach Jimmy (Tom Vera) train another girl,
Jodie (Alexis Arnold), in whom Bridget just sees too much of herself. On
top of that, Bridget's wealthy parents (Ursula Boutwell, Jeff Brody) are
on the verge of losing everything, including Bridget's beloved horse, and
her sort-of boyfriend Dylan (Ethan Rhoad) can't deal with her painkiller
addiction - which drives her to a state of despair that's almost sure to
end in self harm ... One thing's for sure, If I Could
Ride Again is a very likeable movie, it's rather beautifully
filmed, it's full of relatable characters with relatable issues embodied
by a very competent cast, and it doesn't try too hard to drrive whatever
message home. At the same time though, this film just seems too want too
much, it just features too many loosely connected subplots, too many
character arcs for its less than 100 minutes of running time, and for that
seems to meander a bit instead of being concise, and the insistance to end
all of the subplots on a happy note feels a bit too much. Still, if
feel-good movies are your thing, this is a pretty good watch.
