Gentaro (Shoji
Ishibashi), agent for Professor Tsushima, and his klutzy colleague Goro
(Mitsuo Hamada), who unbeknowest to Gentaro is really the giant robot Iron
King, go against the Shirunai Clan headquarters this time around, a bit
too close too comfort for Shirunai Clan leader Taro (Shinzo
Hotta), who thus sends a giant robot, Silver Rider - a robot on giant
wheels, who can even shoot off and control a spare set of wheels in a
combat situation - to destroy Tokyo and distract the two. Gentaro though
is left unfazed by the news that Tokyo is under attack since he figures if
he destroys the Clan, he will ultimately do more good than by trying to
fight Silver Rider in Tokyo. Goro on the other hand can't leave Tokyo to
itself and - as Iron King - goes off to take on Silver Rider, even if
without the help of Gentaro, the chances of success are rather slim.
However, when Gentaro gets too close to Shirunai Clan headquarters,
Taro calls the robot back, and ultimately, once more Gentaro and Iron King
defeat and destroy Silver Rider in a joint effort.
A subplot has a brother and sister team who are members of the Shirunai
Clan, but after sister sees the Clan blowing up a school, she has second
thoughts, and she ultimately sides with Gentaro, giving her life to save
his when shielding his body from a Shirunai-bullet. Her brother too is
killed by the clan when he wants to help his dieing sister ...
Silver Rider is a great if wacky robot, and the battles between him and
Iron King are good fun, topped by the scenes in which he destroys Tokyo.
Otherwise the episode is pretty much routine stuff with the plot offering
little in terms of originality - but if you like me like childish and
silly Japanese giant robot shows as such, you'll probably like this
episode as well ...
