Since she and Jinkx (Monsoon) are living on a fully furnished
soundstage anyway, DeLa (BenDeLaCreme) decides for them to put on a
Christmas special, with all the kitsch and song and dance you'd expect
from a big TV show from yesteryear, to somehow forcefully uphold tradition
- even if she fails to get the nativity story quite right, much less
Jesus's biography beyond that. But she believes whatever Nanog (voiced by
Varla Jean Merman, puppeteered by Sann Hall) - the spirit of her
grandmother captured in eggnog - tells her about Christmas. Problem is,
Jinkx has other memories of Christmas, of warring relatives, of a bad time
drowned in too much alcohol, and of rampant consumerism, and furthermore
she's much more interested in cracking bawdy jokes or having another round
with the naked buy (Jordan Iosua Taylor) in her room. So between much
arguing, catfights, song-and-dance routines and even the behearing of a
polar bear, DeLa and Jinkx try to come to an agreement of how best to put
on a Christmas show ...
The Jinkx and DeLa Holiday Special is pretty much
everything you'd expect from a Christmas show put on by drag performers,
meaning high camp, raunchy jokes, and a weirdly nostalgic feel - and this
movie delivers in the best possible way, as it has the old school TV show
visuals and mechanics down to the t, the dance routines show just the
right amount of irony without coming across as moronic, and Jinkx and Dela
are pretty hilarious and have great chemistry - so whether you love
Christmas specials and have a good sense of humour, or you simply hate
them, this is a movie for you!
