In a not too distant future, the USA has been taken over by the Alpire Corporation, a company whose boss Eion (Harvey Keitel) wants to stylize himself as a man of the people, so much so that he personally helps out in food kitchens, but his goal is really total control. To tht end, he wants everyone to wear special watches, said to be able to cure diseases by controlling the bloodstream - which is true even, but they can also turn people violent or even kill. Presently, Eion has the watch tested on convicts who are every now and again driven to fight and kill one another by the watches, but Eion already plans to equip the entire population with these watches, with the ultimate aim to cleanse society ...

Elera is an Alpire enforcer - but really she's a plant infused into the system by the precious few in the know of the whole set-up who are not with the company. She eventually joins forces with Kyron (Jacob Artist), a man with a manipulated watch that will actually kill him he he doesn't assassinate Eion in the next two days. And thus begins a race with time, one that's only complicated by the fact that the world is not just black and white, and there are many players in the game with their own agenda ...

Now I will say this, Kill Code is rather complex in story and features a plethora of characters with their own arcs that it's not always easy to follow - but that hardly matters, really, as the film has a really nice flow, manages to keep the tension high at all times, and features many a nicely choreographed fight scene as well as flashes of highly inventive violence. On top of all of this, this film is just a feast for the eyes, set designs, costumes and camera work are top notch and manage to give the film its very own atmosphere that's as dystopian as it's engaging. So if science fiction with dark undercurrents is your kind of thing, make sure to give this one a try.
