Jexy (Katie Keene) has carved out a career for herself as influencer -
however, world fame didn't come easy for her, and it came with a prize ...
like having to deal with an over-zealous stalker (Patrick Sharn), whom whe
ultimately had to kill in self defense. For a while, this has broken Jexy,
but after quite a bit of self-treatment with alcohol and pills, she now
things she's ready for a comeback, and for this retreats to her (deceased)
grandmother's cabin in the middle of nowhere, figuring a few days without
seeing anybody, including her boyfriend Kyle (Nathan Freitas) would do her
wonders and bring her spirits back. But no such luck, as enter Megan
(Casey Casmira), a young podcaster who wants to become an internet
sensation like her and asks for her advice. First, Jexy wants to send her
away, but something about the girl touches her and she ultimately invites
her in, and the two spend a nice afternoon together - which comes to an
abrupt end when Megan finds out about Jexy's alcohol and pill abuse, which
enrages her more than a bit as it ruins her perfect image of Jexy. When
Jexy wants to throw Megan out though, Megan electroshocks her, ties her up
and tries to get on her good side again - and Jexy decides to play the
game. secretly looking for a way out. And then Kyle shows up unannounced
and tries to save Jexy, but is only killed by a shot in the head by
Megan's girlfriend Donnie (Diego Gomez). And while Megan's just a bit of a
nutcase, Donnie's an all-.out psycho, and he treats Jexy in a way that
even shocks Megan. But Jexy has quite a few aces up her sleeve as well,
and she's not quite as wholesome, especially in her head, as her
squeaky-clean image might suggest ... A very tense thriller that
gets the most of its very limited locations, using this limitatiion
actually to its advantage, and likewise the small ensemble only heightens
the suspense of the game of cat-and-mouse that evolves before our very
eyes. And the reversal of the victim role in the third act gives the film
its extra spark. And of course, a tight directorial effort and a solid
cast playing colourful characters also helps to make this one pretty
awesome genre ride.
