Genesis (Meagan Holder) runs a true crime podcast together with her best
friend and sidekick Max (Cleo Berry) and producer Carter (Lyrig Bent), her
ex she has managed to remain on friendly terms with. The show has been
laggng in ratings of late though, which is why Genesis's boss Ruby (Lisha
Wheeler) threatens cancellation, Then though, during a live show, Genesis
receives a threatening phonecall - but she doesn't scare easily, so she
does her best to provoke the caller, who identifies himself as a "long
time listener". Of course, this call does wonders to the show's ratings,
so much so that some think it's a hoax - and not even Genesis is sure it
isn't ... that is, until Ruby's found dead, and while her death is ruled a
suicide, Genesis is not so sure. It's here that Genesis does start to
worry a bit, especially when both Max and Carter disappear even if they
were supposed to do a show, and she has nobody to rely on but her young
colleague Elle (Danielle Nicolet) to find them - and their trail leads to
the house of Genesis's estranged ex-girlfriend Lacy (Keyara Milliner) ...
A pretty cool suspense piece that manages to stay ahead of its audience
throughout, gving the audience only what's needed storyywise but keeping
the tension high throughout, thanks to an elegant directorial effort, well
fleshed-out charactres portrayed by a very competent ensemble cast and a
few pretty cool setpieces that act as perfect counterpoints to the film's
overall slowburn approach. And all of this together adds up to very
enjoyable genre entertainment.
