4 year old Sammy (Copley Lord, Hammond Lord) is autistic and thus needs special schooling - however, his parents Megan (Briana Evigan) and Rob (Ryan Kennedy) are not happy with his present school's handling of his condition - but they're in complete disagreement on how to handle the situation: While Rob wants to pull all the stops to get Sammy into a special school for autistic children - going so far as to sleeping with the school's headmistress (Ellen Adair), Megan falls for a populist doctor (Lev Gorn) who has seemingly simple answers to complex problems and might just as well be a quack. Megan goes so far as to have long private conversations with the doc, not realizing that she's actually just talking to one of his emplayees (Ariel Shafir) not even trained in the field. But while they're both trying their best for their son, they seem to not even notice how they're breaking apart ...

Love and Communication is a film that comes across as quite as compelling as it doesn't try too hard to drive home a point - any point really - let alone feed the audience with over-generalized answers to very individual problems, but instead it tells its multi-layered story from q slice-of-life point of view, which is of course helped out by a cast of well fleshed-out fallible characters embodied by a competent cast, and a subtle direction that gives its ensemble enough room to breathe, all resulting in a very worthwhile movie.
