After the death of her father (Butch Peel), Amber /Kennedy McMann) has
taken over his brewery - and very willingly, too, as there's nothing she
enjoys more than brewing beer. Unfortunately though, with the death of her
father, her passion has lost its spark, and trying to run the bar
adjoining the brewery, she does a very bad job. Fortunately though, before
his death, her old man as hired a PR manager, Samuel (Alex Moffat), to
turn things around. And this is some support she strongly needs as local
banker Rich Bank (Joel De La Fuente) is already breathing down her neck
regarding back rent and actually wants to take over the brewery. Thing is,
Amber's brewery is situated in small town New Mexico while Samuel is a
cityboy from New York City, so naturally their visions about the business
clash at first, but eventually ... and I'm pretty confident you can tell
where this is going to.
Now as you might already be able to tell from reading my synopsis this is
a romantic comedy, and it really hardly misses a beat when it comes to
genre tropes. That said this film is very aware of what it is and buries
its predictable plot under some genuinely funny joke, tones down the
romance in favour of laughs, and on top of that features a cast of
enjoyably colourful characters. And Kennedy McMann has some genuine
comedic talent and carries the film beautifully, and she's backed up by a
very competent cast, making this the rare case of a romantic comedy that
can also be enjoyed by those who are not into the genre.
