Assane (Omar Sy) tracks down the person he figures is ideal to help him
take down Pellegrini (Hervé Pierre), the man he thinks responsible for
the suicide of his father: Fabienne Beriot (Anne Benoît), a disgraced
journalist who had been investigating Pellegrini many moons ago, but
gotten too close to the truth so Pellegrini destroyed her career. Thing
is, Fabienne has lost her spark since, and at first is less than thrilled
about the thought of bringing her nemesis down after all these years. But
by the by her instincts awaken, and she directs Assane to steal a certain
videotape from the archives of the newspaper that proves that Pellegrini
was actually behind a terrorist attack of the French embassy in Malaysia a
couple of decades back. So Assane teases portions of the video on Twitter,
then in the guise of a conspiracy theorist goes onto an infotainment show
to show the whole tape. But alas, the show's infiltrated by Pellegrini's
men, thus the tape is edited to paint a different picture of what Assane
wanted to reveal, and Assane has to make a hasty escape to not fall into
the clutches of Pellegrini's men. Meanwhile, Fabienne is threatened to
give up Assane's adress, and when she refuses, she's hanged, making
Assane's defeat complete ... Frankly, not a high point in the
series. That said, I love the ending that shows that not even Assane is
infallible - it's just, the way to this ending seems rather pedestrian,
the ingenuity of Assane's plans, that's pretty much the backbone of the
show, is lacking here, he seems to be played by Pellegrini without even
putting up much of a fight. Sure, it succeeds in increasing the stakes for
the next episode, it could have just been done in a more elegant way.
