Brian (Mark Prendergast) is a budding actor, answering to yet another
open casting call, of which he has seen all too many. Waiting to be called
in, he meets Lizzie (Taylor Joree Scorse), a budding actress just like
him, and the two become fast friends. But when they want to practice their
lines with one another, they notice they're both reading for the same role
- so one of them obviously has made a mistake when applying for the part.
But trying to find out the gender of their character before the audition
proves to be unexpectedly impossible. And with only a few minutes till the
audition, they have to come up with a solution for their conundrum fast
... Ever budding actor ever can probably relate to the
happenings of this movie, if maybe not the exact events but the general
mixture of nervousness and confusion leading up to pretty much any
audition. And the situation depicted in Main Character Energy is
actually a pretty inspired one and worked into a fun movie - with extra
props going to the hilarious dialogue our protagonists end up reading. On
top of that, some fine performances really bring this short to life, while
a smooth directorial effort with an eye for comic timing nicely carries
the piece along, all making for pretty great comedy.
