It's 10 years after the events of Psycho:
Norman Bates (Chris Bostrom) has since spent his days in a catatonic state
in an asylum. But now Dr. Raymond (Tom Patrick Propofsky) has finally
managed to get him out of his condition, has managed to break through to
Norman. And he tries to convince him that his mother (Debra Lamb), whom
Norman blames of everything, isn't real, as she has died 22 years ago. But
even if Mother isn't real, she's still real to Norman - and she has an ace
or two up her sleeve ... To make a worthy sequel to a
masterpiece such as Psycho is an
incredibly difficult task - as the official sequels have handily shown in
their ineptitude -, but writer/director Chris R. Notarile sure finds the
right approach to it: Instead of presenting the audience with yet another
serial killer movie, he goes to the root of Norman's problem - and thanks
to a strong performance by horror veteran Debra Lamb, this root, Mother
herself, comes to life rather beautifully. And thanks to a solid
directorial effort that evokes the visuals of Psycho
more than anything else, this one really works as a nice companion piece
to the film, and is well worth a watch, too!
