Pénélope (Rose-Marie Perreault) has only recently given birth to Lou
(Bastien Picard, Robin Picard), and this leaves her unhinged: I mean, sure
she loves the little guy, but she never wanted a kit, and she*s also
caught between her boyfriend and baby father (Simon Landry-Desy), a stoner
and thus less than perfect dad, and her affair (Saladin Deliers), who's
essentially a good guy but not fit with Pénélope's crazyness, And then
there's also her guilt about her sister's (Marie Bélanger), who has dies
many years ago, an event she has just never come to come over. All that in
mind, it's no big surprise that she eventually breaks and enters a world
between fantasy and reality that makes her make at times bizarre decisions
...
Now Nesting isn't an easy film to get into, mostly down
to the film's main theme, post partum deptression, cranked up to 11, And
the film's really more character- than story-driven, and rather slow-paced
and at times even confusing. But if you're up for all of this, the film's
also a pretty fascinating and compelling portrayal of a deeply troubled
woman, helped only by a strong central performance. So in all, not a movie
for everybody, but if you can get into this kind of drama you'll be richly
rewarded.
