A woman, a suburban housewife with a bagful of creditcards, 2 kids and a husband who can't
get it up is treated at a strange kind of clinic for not being
able to have an organsm. Via a headset she gets stimuli that allow her
to have erotic fantasies, but may also drive her insane, even kill her.
A couple of scientists control the stimuli & keep her under constant
watch through a one-way mirror, seeing her fantasies on a monitor.
Finally, after a series of increasingly bizarre, even surreal fantasies
(when she has her way, for example with a cornflakes-box (!) come to
life) the scientists finally succeed - but do they ?
The last scene
shows the treated woman dismissing them but telling them to come back
next week, very much posing the question of who was treating who.
In the field of hardcore porn (&, if you wondered, Night
Dreams is hardcore porn), director Rinse Dream was one of the very
few who understood sexual intercourse not only on a purely physical
level (meaning showing every detail of it but little else) but as a form
of performing art, as a canvas on which to paint bizarre, often surreal
pictures. This movie (and the more famous Cafe Flesh of one year
later) is no exception, as the lead actress fantasizes about having sex
with a clown from a pop-up box, a cereal-box & a toast from the
breakfast table, 2 cowgirls, waterpipe-smoking beduines, even the devil,
making this one less your average hardcore porn, but a work of art all
of its own that just happens to involve fucking. |
