A bitter Santa tells little Peter (Jude Forsey) a handful of
Christmas-themed horror stories:
- There's the story of Mr. Red (Tony Fadil), who with his friends Mr.
Green (Sonny Denham) and Mr. White (Jeff Kristian) murders a whole
family (Dani Thompson, Lee Craven, Adam Thomas Wright) on Christmas
Eve - all but little Chloe (Eloise Henwood), whom they take in as
their somewhat over-eager apprentice ...
- Then there's ventriloquist Henry White (Mark Beauchamp), whose act
with a snowman dummy sure has seen better days, and failing an
audition and being left by his wife Jade (Bibi Lucille) on the very
same dame drives him over the cliff - and homicidally so ...
- Louise (Lucy Pinder) has just been left by her husband Jonathan
(Marc Zammit) shortly, much to her distress and the distress of her
children - but since Christmas is only days aways, there's someone who
can set things right. Unfortunately that someone's Krampus ...
- Today, Father McShane (Jeff Kristian) is suffering from severe
dementia and thus has to be cared for by his daughter Maria (Olivia
Hespe), but back when he was responsible for the disappearance of many
a young boy - in the name of the Lord of course. Thing is, sometimes
the past does come back to haunt one ...
- With the last tale, we find out what made Santa, or rather Tony, a
dedicated Santa performer, so bitter - and it ain't pretty ...
Now one thing up front, if you're really into Christmas and the holiday
spirit and all, this is not a film for you, as Nightmare on 34th Street
is a bitter satire on the holidays by way of (sometimes rather visceral)
horror. At the same time, the film's also good fun for all with a dark and
twisted sense of humour and a predilection for rather mean-spirited short
stories, as there's plenty of shocks and gore in this one, along with
plenty of cruelty - but done in a somewhat light-footed way that might
make you at times giggle against better judgment. In all then, a pretty
fun horror tirp for sure.
