Bigfoot
has become something of a cultural phenomenon over the years, starting
life as an urban legend like many others, it has since branched out into
all sorts of disciplines, from pop culture and entertainment to
cryptozoology and paranormal research - and that despite the fact that
over the last couple of centuries, nobody was ever able to provide any
evidence that the creature had actually ever existed, and the reports to
the outward appearance of Bigfoot as well as its behaviour have varied
rather drastically. So filmmaker Seth Breedlove has taken it upon himself
to investigate what's behind it all, and has met up with many a Bigfoot
researcher all over the USA to share their experiences, from serious
scientific men to hobbyists who just want to believe, and from people
really grounded in reality who just want answers to those looking to link
it to the paranormal and UFOs. What Breedlove got out of it were no
definite answers about Bigfoot's existence - and he's no more to believe
in it now than when he started filming the documentary - but a rather
loving portray of Bigfoot enthusiasts from all walks of life, most of whom
being far from the conspiracy theorists one might expect but level-headed
individuals who have been touched by this phenomenon one way or another
and now want to know more - and you can't blame humankind for being
curious ... Now one thing up front, On the Trail of Bigfoot
is a film that will probably convince not even one person that Bigfoot
exists - and no, I myself am not a believer even if I think Bigfoot much
more grounded in reality than the paranormal or UFOs -, but that was never
the intention of this documentary, rather it was to explore the different
approaches to the research and let the audience be part of the experience
... and as such, the series works very well, it's very level-headed in
approach, doesn't fall prey to sensationalism, follows a clear structure
and doesn't hammer home any wild ideas. In other words, you may not find
Bigfoot in this one, but you'll probably understand the subject quite a
bit better.
