Director Julie (Eili Harboe) leads a group of students making a zombie
film in a rundown hotel with three professional actors, Iben (Akerlie),
Arthur (Berning) and famous guest star Dennis (Storhøi) - and the
production is under no good star from day one, as the temperaments of the
students clash with those of the professionals, Julie's not the best in
explaining her "vision", she's not at all ok with her boyfriend and DOP
Felix (Vebjørn
Enger) rather innocently flirting with Iben, and Dennis starts having diva
moments to the point where he threatens to bail. Amidst all of this drama,
the fact that a meteorite hit near the location almost gets lost in the
noise. Thing is, the meteorite has brought some alien parasites to earth
fit to take over human bodies, using them for their own, violent ends ... Everybody
who has ever worked on an indie filmset will probably see at least some of
their experiences mirrored in this movie, as Project Z is rather
excellent in portraying the chaos surrounding a movie shoot - and in a
very fun way at that, as up until late in the game, this film's a comedy
rather than anything else. A comedy made by a horror-savvy director though
who can switch gears into thriller filmmaking pretty much at the drop of
the hat. And helped by a very able and relatable cast, he has managed to
churn out an extremely entertaining genre film.
