After the whole crew of spaceship Red Dwarf - the last human alive
Lister (Craig Charles), the after-death hologram Rimmer (Chris Barrie),
the cat evolved to human form Cat (Danny John-Jules), & even the
ship's computer Holly (Norman Lovett) - had way too much to drink
celebrating Rimmer's death day, Rimmer confesses to Lister about his sad
lovelife, & that he had sex only once ...
When the crew wakes up the enxt day, it is four days later (?), Lister
& the Cat both have a broken leg, Holl's starcharts are wrong, &
the black box that should know everything is gone ...
Somehow, the crew finds the black box again, under a gravestone dedicted
to the memory of the memory of Lisa Yates, curiously enough the
name of one of Listers exs. So they watch what's onthe black box:
After Rimmer's confession, Lister felt sorry for him, & decided to
give him 8 months of his memory, the memory of his relationship with Lisa
Yates (Sabra Williams). The next morning, due to his new memory of having
experienced true love, Lister feels great ... until he finds out that
Lister had an affair with Lisa too - which is when Lister confesses to him
that only he had an affair with Lisa, deriving Rimmer of the best memory
he ever had.
So Rimmer forces Lister to erase the memory of all those on board,
Holly included, & bury the black box on some planet they pass by ...
which is where the gravestone squashes a leg of both Lister & Cat.
And then ... it's over.
Even if this episode has some nice ideas, the whole story sounds like
only the set-up for something bigger, only to, after the black box is
buried, suddenly run the end credits. Somehow the audience is left
unsatisfied.
