Aga (Alicia Henriksson) takes her daughters Elina (Sarah Giercksky) and
Lily (Tindra Hedlund) to the cabin in the woods they grew up in to spread
the ashes of her husband and their father. But what was once their idyllic
country home has become a depressing place, not only because of their
mission, and even if Elina is able to hook up with her old boyfriend
(Xander Turian) again. But they also meet their old neighbour Marit
(Birgitta Nord), who was once like a second mother to them but now acts
all weird. And then there are three young brothers (Jesper Hell, Krister
Twizz Forsberg, Oscar Rusanen), who show up when the women perform their
sad task ... and kill them. Problem is, Elina's not quite dead, and she's
a tough cookie who's able to treat her stab wound herself (however
rudimentarily) before going after the brothers one by one. Thing is, the
brothers had a reason to do what they have done, and it's not pretty ... Of
course, it's hard to overlook the parallels with I
Spit on Your Grave when watching Sargad, what with the
female avenger and the backwood settings and all, but at the same time one
can't deny that this is a very tightly scripted thriller in its own right
carried by atmospheric settings, relatable characters, and violence and
gore that really hurt. Plus, the odd macabre detail thrown in throughout
give this a very original spin. Totally worth a watch!
