Sherlock Holmes (Ronald Howard) has vanished, seemingly without a
trace, but his friends Doctor Watson (Howard Marion Crawford) and
Inspector Lestrade (Archie Duncan) track him down to a curiosity shop
where they arrive just in time from making an arrest he has planned for
quite some time - now that will teach him a lesson ever to leave his
friends in the dark again.
Anyways, Holmes and company soon learn that Carson (Cecil Brock), the
man he wanted to arrest, wants to kill Westlake (Colin Drake), the judge
who condemned him to thirty years, so they go to the judge for his
protection, then receive a message that they immediately decide is nothing
more than a trick to lure them away - yet interestingly enough, they let
themselves be lured away all the same. Then they again decide it's nothing
more than a trick to lure them away, return to the judge's house and find
Carson already at his throat - but Lestrade can shoot him before he can do
the judge any harm ...
None of the episodes of Sheldon Reynold's 1950's Sherlock Hokmes
series has too much of a good script, true, but this one is riddled with
plotholes, like why doesn't Holmes inform his friends that he's going to
work undercover, why does Carson frequent the curiosity shop Holmes has
put up camp (there is an explanation for this one, but it's way too
feeble), and why do Holmes and company let themselves be lured away when
they know it's a trick in the end ? All questions without answers, yet
this is one of the more amusing episodes of the series for some reason -
yet given the low quality of the entire series that's not really saying
much ...
