Sophie (Marina Fois) and Vincent's (Fabrize Eboué) butchery is
failing, and an attack by militant masked vegans doesn't make things any
better. Then one night they run over a vegan cyclist, and realize if they
report this to the police as they should they're probably fucked. So they
decide to cut up the body and throw it out in pieces with all their
leftovers, as that would attract the least suspicion. But some of the body
gets mixed in with the fresh meat - and becomes a runaway success. So they
decide to kill more vegans, just to save their shop. And while Vincent has
his reservations at first, he soon eases into the killing, even enjoys it.
And the butchery turns into a goldmine - especially their "Iranian
pork", as they call their vegans. And since there are no bodies, all
the vegans they have killed are officially only missing persons, and
nobody would even think of tracing vegans back to a butchery. Nobody at
least but a pocket of conspiracy theory-prone vegan activists ... Now
Some Like It Rare is a politically incorrect and rather blunt black
comedy that sure has its laughs, in fact plenty of them, both of the
purely physical and situational variety, and despite a certain
repetitiveness in its humour, the film is well-enough paced and structured
to entertain throughout. But that said, if you're looking for subtlety,
look somewhere else as this movie's giving its subject matter the
sledgehammer treatment. Good fun still for sure, just nothing beyond that.
