Ever since he's been a kid, Duke (Gavin Cox) has been bullied, either
for his name or him being an orphan or simply for his beloved cowboy hat.
And one day when he was almost beaten to death by his peers, he decided he
would strike back, "bring peace" to those who have done him
wrong. But of course, back when he was a meek 10 year old, so putting his
plans into action was pretty much a no-go. Now though he's all grown up
(and played by Sam Foster), and he has found out serialkiller clown John
Wayne Gacy (Jeremy Woodworth) is his father, so killing's actually in his
blood. And he not only fantasizes about it a lot, he also makes all the
preparations to finally lure someone back to his apartment to kill him.
Thing is, he quite simply lacks the talent to actually pull it through -
much to the disappointment of his 10 year old self he ever so often meets
in this fantasy world he usually retreats to after yet another failure ... In
a way, Son of Gacy Chapter One is the antithesis to the vast number
of serialkiller flicks out there, inasmuch as on one hand the film has the
audience rooting for the killer to kill, on the other said
"killer" actually never kills anyone - if not for the lack of
trying. And in that respect, the film is actually quite touching as a
sort-of underdog story. And while the film's somewhat grungy low budget
looks lend themselves well to the brutal subject nature of the film, a
certain shot of humour really takes the edge of things - and all of this
results in a rather unusual, slightly disturbing but very watchable film.
