JF (Sébastien Huberdeau) finds a nice antique chair when his uncle
clears out his garage and takes it back home. Sure, another man used it to
hang himself, but hey, that's not the chair's fault, now is it? Only, once
he sits down in the chair, JF has visions of taking his own life - and he
almost does, too, but somehow manages to throw the thing out just in time. Later
that day, JF calls his friend Aly (Maude St-Pierre) and wants to come over
and hang out ... not knowing that Aly has in the meantime found the very
same chair by the roadside, taken it home, sat down in it and ... From
a story point of view, Studded Nightmare is a very Twilight
Zone-esque film, with all the macabre twists and turns the
story demands in the right places, and the added attraction of some gory
scenes. That said though, the movie is hardly a masterpiece, the story is
alright but predictable, and the direction and cinematography are elegant
but functional and don't get all they can out of the story - which leaves
the audience with a rather beautiful little movie that falls just a bit
short of its promises.
