After Saki has died in the season
finale of season 1, director Kurayami's (Hiroyuki Nagato) Sukeban
Deka program is left without their lead field agent - and whichever girl
he has tested, none life up to Saki's abilities. Then though Kurayami's
right hand Nishiwaki (Keizo Kanie) finds Yoko (Yoko Minamino), a girl who
has been forced to wear an iron mask for all of her life, and has thus
grown bitter and cynical. Nishiwaki is able to free her from her mask and
offers her to work as their new field agent, but at first she refuses -
but he offers her revenge on whoever's responsible for her wearing teh
iron mask for all her life, and eventually she accepts. However, she first
needs to be tested and thus has to escape from a house guarded by ten
armed men using nothing but her wits - and she excels, also thanks to a
yo-yo (the preferred defensive weapon of the Sukeban Dekas) thrown to her
by Nishiwaki when she faces a firing squad. And ultimately she accepts. This
is not great - but good entertainment nevertheless: The action is partly
lifted from First Blood, but
with a school girl in the Sylvester Stallone role, so that's fun already,
plus many of the action scenes defy logic and even the laws of nature,
which is always good for a giggle of awe, and while the plot is incredibly
far-fetched, it somehow makes sense in the (typically Japanese camp) world
the show has created for itself. So if you're not looking for high art
and/realism, you might really enjoy this one.
