A female master thief who calls herself the Temptress of a Thousand
Faces is loose in Hong Kong, and it seems that of all the cops in the
city, only Ji-ying (Tina Chin-Fei) has a lead on her, so much so that the
Temptress, whose face nobody knows, has her kidnapped, wears a facial mask
to resemble her to the fullest and then robs the diamonds from a fashion
show which Ji-ying was supposed to protect. Then Ji-ying is set free, but
of course, now she's arrested for robbing the diamonds. Only her
boyfriend, reporter Yu-da (Chen Liang) believes in her, and commits a
robbery in the Temptress's name to divert suspicion from Ji-ying. After
having been cleaed of the crime and released from prison, Ji-ying is
re-kindapped by the Temptress's men almost immediately, and once more the
Temptress disguises herself as Ji-ying, but this time not to commit a
crime but to have sex with Yu-da - and to add insult to injury, the
Temptress lets Ji-ying watch the whole thing via hidden cam. Ji-ying
frees herself, ames her way to Yu-da's place and fights the Temptress
right in Yu-da's bedroom. Then she and Yu-da, accompanied by the chief of
police and almost the city's entire police force chase the Temptress back
to her hideout, where the Temptress manages to cut off Ji-ying and Yu-da
from the others, reveals herself (to noone's real surprise) to be Yu-da's
clumsy reporter colleague Mao-li (Pat Ting Hung) who has long been in love
with him, and then tries to blow up Ji-ying and Yu-da - but ultimately the
two lovers are saved and the Temptress is gunned down by the entire police
force ... A crime movie of the supervillain variety that's as
silly as it's stylish, as far-fetched as it's energetic - and that's
exactly why this movie is so enjoyable, it tells its over-the-top story in
an over-the-top way, and while it never takes itself too seriously, it
also never lets the tension slip. Add to this your typical 1960's pop art
style and you have a wonderful and highly enjoyable piece of cult that has
been grossly overlooked at least in the West. Recommended.
