It should be a slam dunk case, Texas senator Dixson (Carlton Caudle), who's
known for his stance on overly strict state abortion laws, is shot dead
during a rally, and Dale (Cole Springer), a young janitor at a nearby
buisling and an anti abortion activist, had easy access to the room the
senator was shot from and his legally owned gun was founs at the scene of
the crime - so naturally he has been arrested almost on the spot. Only
Detective Banks (Michael Freeland) doesn't believe in the guy's guilt, as
he would have been an expert marksman to fire and hit his target twice in
short succession while Dale only uses his gun for occasionally shooting
squirrels, without being very good at it. And since the local chief of
police (Michael A. Nettles) trusts Banks' hunch, he permits him to dig
deeper and even gives him a partner, Benesh (Samuel French) - but he can
only give the two of them three days, as after that the case is handed
over to the FBI. The two
investigate and soon find out that Dale's apartment was broken into,
probably to steal the gun. Another clue takes Banks to Dale's estranged
father, rich businessman Osbourne (Cole Springer), who is in less than a
hurry to get his son a lawyer, who's pro-abortion, and also secretly in a
white supremacist society - and he has never gotten over the fact that his
son has a black girlfriend (Deja Hall). But would a father really frame
his own son? A rather slick little thriller that mixes murder and
politics in an engaging way while keeping things moving swiftly enough to
not have the audience worried too much over the occasional leap of reason,
and the film's certainly well played and well-executed. The one thing
that's a little annoying is that Banks is portrayed as too perfect of a
man, as he's not only a detecive who's always right, he's also (of course)
an ex-Marine (US-shorthand for all-around hero) and a perfect father and
husband - as which he's portrayed in a subplot that's 100% disconnected
from the main plot and in fact at times gets in its way. That said, this
doesn't detract from the enjoyability of the movie too much, the movie
just could have done without and be better for it.
