Achille (Ugo Tognazzi) is an unpublished and unsuccessful science
fiction author who's in love with Lidia (Sylva Koscina), the daughter of
Pasquale (Totò), the publisher whose magazine he works for - and Pasquale
wouldn't touch his science fiction stories with a stick. Furthermore he's
strictly opposed to the relationship between Achille and Lidia - that is
until it's discovered by the NASA that Achille has monkey's blood in his
blood and is therefore the only person on the whole world probably to
withstand the strain of a trip to space. Thing is, when this is proposed
to Achille, he thinks the NASA agents are literary agents who want to
publish his book in the USA. When Pasquale learns though that what he also
perceives as literary agents are interested in Achille, he pretty much
forces him into marrying Lidia (not that there's much actual forcing to
do), then has his book printed to beat the Americans to the punch. When
everybody finds out what's really going on though, and Achille simply
refuses to be shot to space, even if he would make a fortune and a half if
he'd agree, Pasquale gets so angry that he hooks up with some German
agents who want to kidnap Achille to use him for their own space
experiment. But once he has presented Achille to them on a silver platter,
Pasquale too is captured by the Germans to be shot into space. Enter an
alien from outer space though whose people don't want humans in outer
space and who's thus to replace both Achille and Pasquale by pod people,
and ... well, everything ends in a giant mix-up and in the end the real
Pasquale is shot into orbit with the fake Achille, but the aliens redirect
the spaceship to the moon, where Achille is to spend the rest of his life
(moon has an atmosphere in this one) - but at least the aliens give him a
sexy moon-woman to have someone to spend the rest of his life with ... Mildly
funny light comedy that has a few hilarious moments, but more often than
not tries to milk its good jokes for way too long to actually remain
amusing. The science fiction elements by the way are rather down-played in
this one, and the alien rather disappointingly is nothing more than two
animated floating eyes, but at least the whole thing pays loving hommage
to vintage (well, then current) pulps. Still, it's certainly not the worst
comedy, not even the worst Italian comedy you've ever seen, but it's a
good bit less than great or even especially memorable.
