Eric's (Adam Melrick) sister Zoe (Kelsey Anne Osborne) has gone missing
while on a cross country trip in her van, and even though there's a
consnsus where she has last been seen. a vast forest land in Northern
California,, the area was just too vast to find her again, despite valiant
efforts. And after the authorities quit their search, Eric decides to go
on on his own, kc9vering a territory the police have left out, for
whatever reason. He doesn't find her but her cellphone that he manages to
get to work again - and so he watches what starts out as a travel-vlog
taking Zoe and her chihuahua to many an idyllic spot in the USA until they
reach afore mentioned forest lands - that despite their remote location
seem to be inhabited by something or someone, but Zoe decides to brave it
- and then one night her dog disappears, and try as she might she can't
find her anymore. But who- or whatever-it-is has long picked up her scent
... Now by and large, I'm not all that much into found footage
movies, and like most of them, Van Life does have its
lengths, but this one also gets much right that your usual found footage
fare rarely does, like minimizing the amount of pointless filler material
and vapid dialogue. And it's really once Zoe hits the creepy forest that
the film really hits its stride, meaning creating tension and suspense by
suggestive filmmaking rather than faking it by shaky camerawork. And
Kelsey Anne Osborne, who carries most of the movie completely on her own
gives a flawless and completely natural perfromance, helping in making
this a very enjoyable piece of horror.
