Copywriter Alice (Hannah Keeley) has just lost her job, and it wasn't
entirely unjustified -after all, she has always had a problem
delivering her stuff on time. That said, her boss (Mike Reeping) shouldn't
have made a move on her for her to keep her job. Now unable to get work as
a copywriter somewhere else, she decides to become a model for a dirty
website and persuades her best friend Calvin (David Dietz), a professional
photographer, to make sexy photos of her. Now she doesn't do any undity
let alone porn, but she sure as heck is pretty enough to over time gain a
loyal following. And eventually she has the idea of auctioning herself off
for an actual date - which for Calvin, who has feelings for her, crosses a
line and he storms off. Now Alice doesn't actually go through with the
date as she gets cold feet the last minute, but returning home she finds
an intruder in her house who chlorophorms and kidnaps her - and when she
comes to in a prison cell at an abandoned haunted house attraction at the
mercy of her attacker who relishes in torturing her, she has to come to
the conclusion that maybe she deserves at least some of this because she
hasn't been the nicest of persons, starting with her treatment of Calvin,
whom she took advantage of multiple times without ever returning the
favour ... One can't but somehow love the concept of this movie that
starts out more like a romantic comedy than anything even horror-related,
and really the first half of this film is light-footed as can be and at
times even funny - and yet, it's the perfect set-up for the film's rather
extended third act that's pure survival horror as the finale's really
based on the lead character's actions. And it's really to Hannah Keeley's
credit that she manages to give a homogenous performance despite the
film's shift in tone, and she's supported by a very solid small ensemble,
too. So basically, if you like your horror thinking a tad outside the box,
whit one's for you for sure.
